I have talked to many agents throughout my career about how technology can revolutionize their practice. The feedback I get from the older agent is usually the same:

  • “I’m old school and don’t need a website.”
  • “My website that hasn’t been updated in eight years is fine.”
  • “I don’t need social media. My clients don’t use it so why should I? I don’t understand it and I don’t have time to learn it.”

… and it goes on and on and on. But when you ask that same agent if they need more appointments and are looking to increase production, the answer is usually a resounding yes!

Let’s start with a content-rich, robust website. Is it important in today’s world? Absolutely! Not having a website or having a poorly designed, outdated website is like not having electricity or a phone. It’s vital for every business out there. Your website is your first impression. Prospects will Google you, and if they cannot find you or don’t like what they see (first impression), you lose. Your website should be one of your hardest-working employees.

What about social media? Is having a business Facebook page really that important? Absolutely! Facebook is just too big to ignore. According to researchers at DMN3, 91 percent of baby boomers use one or more social media sites, and about 17 percent of that group spent more than 11 hours each week on Facebook. That’s huge! Embrace social media because your potential clients do. And if you’re not leveraging Facebook, you’re missing out.

I believe the biggest hurdle for the old-school agent is believing they can participate and embrace new strategies that leverage technology without having to learn new things. That’s where we come in—that’s our responsibility. Our first step is getting to know you and your practice. What are your strengths? What could you improve? Where are you missing out? As the industry’s first Agency Development Organization (ADO), our primary focus is getting to know you. All of our recommendations are custom to your practice and personality. We do not have off-the-shelf or canned solutions. The strategies are always customized for you.
